Christmas Cards for Prisoners
The Anglican Chaplain to HMP Isle of Wight reminds us that prisoners are always very grateful for all who show an interest in them and show them care and humanity as children of a compassionate and forgiving God. As last year she has asked that all of us who feel able, prepare a Christmas Card for a prisoner. It is suggested that these should have a short general message i.e. Happy Christmas and then signed by the sender’s first name only and ‘a member of a church on the Island’. No surname and no address of the church. The envelope should be left open. The Chaplain is also looking for donations of mince pies for distribution after carol services at the prison.
If you are able to provide either a Christmas card or some mince pies, or both, please arrange to give them to either Frances or John Yunnie no later than Advent Sunday, 1st December, so that they can be passed to the Chaplain in good time. This scheme was very well received by the prisoners last year who were very touched that people who were busy arranging their own Christmas festivities had given a thought for them.
