All Saints’ Church Foundation Stone

Sunday 4th August, 2019 will mark the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Laying of the Foundation Stone of the church in 1869.

It was carried out by Princess Christian (Helena) of Schleswig-Holstein. She was the third daughter and fifth child of Queen Victoria. The church was consecrated three years later in 1872.

The Corner Stone is to be found in the buttress to the right of the East Window. It is located only two feet above the grass and is currently being cleaned. The inscription reads:

This Stone was laid by Her Royal Highness Helena Augusta Victoria Princess Christian of Schleswig-Holstein, deputed to represent Her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Victoria


The anniversary will be marked at the 10.00 a.m. service at All Saints’ next Sunday, 4th August.
